New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions are the determinations we make at the very beginning of a new year. These resolutions are often centered around personal growth and self-improvement. Since many people view the New Year as a fresh start, it is the perfect opportunity to set your New Year’s resolutions for 2024 if you haven’t already!

What do you think are the most common New Year’s resolutions in the United States? According to a survey, the top New Year’s resolution is to save more money. The second most common is to exercise more. Some other resolutions include spending less time on social media and eating healthier.

Here are some New Year’s resolution ideas:

  1. Prioritize sleep

  2. Try new cooking recipes

  3. Start journaling

  4. Read more books

  5. Exercise often

  6. Explore new hobbies

  7. Take a social media break

  8. Learn a new language

  9. Drink more water and stay hydrated

  10. Organize your room

Even though many people set New Year’s resolutions, only a handful of them end up keeping them. So what are some tips to keep your resolutions?

  1. Set a specific resolution- Instead of a broad resolution like “read more books,” you will most likely follow your resolutions if you make them specific like “read 1 book per month.”

  2. Set an achievable resolution- You are more likely to lose your motivation if you set unrealistic resolutions like “read 3 books per week.” Instead, set achievable resolutions that will help your resolutions last longer!

  3. Limit the number of resolutions- Although you might want to set many goals, this will increase the chance of losing motivation from getting overwhelmed by your long list of resolutions. Around 1-3 resolutions are a good amount as it will allow you to focus on each of them.

  4. Plan your resolutions in detail- Instead of simply stating your resolutions, you should plan them in detail. For example, you can think about how to accomplish your resolutions, how long it might take, etc.

  5. Make it a habit- Did you know it takes approximately two months to form a new habit? Even if you face an obstacle or miss a few days of working towards your resolutions, don’t give up until you’ve made it a habit. Be patient with yourself.
