St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is celebrated annually on March 17th since 1737. It is celebrated on March 17th because St. Patrick’s death anniversary is 461. St. Patrick’s Day was originally celebrated in Ireland with religious services and feasts in honor of St. Patrick, one of Ireland’s patron saints. When Irish immigrants brought St. Patrick’s Day traditions to the United States, the day became a celebration of Irish culture. 



Fun facts about ST Patrick's Day


The Chicago River has been dyed green every year since 1962 for every St. Patrick's Day.


There is a belief that if you wear green, you will be invisible to leprechauns. If you are not wearing green, then a leprechaun will see you and pinch you.


Some of the most traditional Irish foods include shepherd’s pie, Irish soda bread, and corned beef.


America's first St Patrick's day parade was held in Boston.



St. Patrick’s Day is a very widely celebrated holiday that is supported by all races. Saint Patrick is buried at the Down Cathedral in Ireland. The church was built in 1183 and he remained buried there.
